Auricular Acupuncture
Auricular acupuncture is becoming increasing popular in the treatment of cocaine addiction. Research into its effectiveness is contradictory, some studies show little benefit whilst others suggest you are much more likely to successfully withdraw from cocaine with the help of acupuncture.
Whilst the acupuncture is not a compulsory part of the treatment programme, our observations lead us to believe that it is extremely helpful. Many of our clients report considerable benefits. Five cocaine detox points
Five small needles are inserted into each ear at specific points.
- Sympathetic point - Promotes the body's release of endorphins which helps with pain relief and is believed to relax internal organs.
- Shenmen point - Calms the mind, reduces stress and helps to promote sleep.
- Lung point - Involved in immunity and protects the body from disease. Helps with breathing and circulation. Aids and accelerates the rate of detox
- Kidney point - Helps kidney function and digestion. Gives relief from kidney damage caused through cocaine use.
- Liver point - Helps the liver repair from damage caused by cocaine use and is believed to keep emotions and the body's system working smoothly.
How does it work?
Explanations differ as to how auricular acupuncture works. The Chinese tell us that by stimulating particular points in your ear, your Chi energy (life energy) is cleared of blockages and is free to flow naturally. Western medicine explains that nerves in the ear when stimulated promote an electrochemical response in the brain, releasing neurochemicals such as dopamine and endorphines, which promote feelings of well being and rebalance brain chemistry altered through cocaine use. Whatever explanation you prefer it really does help. Auricular acupuncture offers no side effects, is non addictive, reduces anxiety and depression and aids the withdrawal process.
