Recovery Coaching
Taking back control of your life
Unfortunately there is no magic pill, or instant cure for cocaine addiction and if you are waiting for someone to make you better, you have a very long wait. New Choices believe that real recovery is not about surrendering power, it is about reclaiming it. Recovery is an active process, it is about taking back control of your life and establishing new ways of living, managing situations and finding fulfilment without recourse to drink, drugs or other addictive behaviours.
Drug Addiction counselling
Recovery coaching is essentially a mixture of counselling and support. Not generally what people expect of counselling. I promise no sitting in groups, digging up trauma from the past or opening old wounds. There is no need to go through this to deal with your addiction, on the contrary there is nothing more likely to drive you back into old addictive behaviours than being confronted with pain. The type of counselling we use, is learning about your self, about addiction, cocaine and other drugs, gaining an understanding of what you are going through and then most importantly finding solutions to deal with it… It's that simple.
A key part of this is learning about your patterns of thinking and behaviour and identifying what psychologist call cues and triggers. You will learn to identify addictive thinking, learn to challenge old thought processes and to ‘think clean'.
Intense cravings are the most common cause of relapse. Mercifully cravings don't last forever and if you learn to avoid them and can ride them out you're half way to cracking addiction. Your recovery coach will teach you techniques such as ‘crave surfing' to enable you to ride out cravings. They will help you identify the cues and triggers that bring on cravings and help you establish ways of managing trigger situations. In short the counselling will give you the knowledge you need to take back control of your life and beat addiction. |
Supporting you every step of the way
Recovery coaches are ex-addicts who have been fully trained in all aspects of addiction and transformational recovery techniques. Your coach's role is not to tell you what to do, but to work along side you and establish a trusting and healing partnership. They will motivate, encourage and help you understand your addiction, explore patterns in your behaviour, teach you how to reframe addictive thinking and practice techniques to beat cravings. You remain in the ‘driving seat' at all times, your coach aims to keep you on course and navigate your transformation to sustained recovery. Support is only ever a phone call way
